Mere Chashme Buddoor

All that are following my blog will know that i am a movie buff. I will watch movies as second nature. Immerse myself in them and just enjoy the portrayal of human nature. In the vast mountain of movies that i have seen, very few really grab the cockles of my heart and make me light. One such movie is Chashme Buddoor and here is why.

The movie does not try hard! Its beauty is in its complete and total ease. Its easy to follow, yet it is quite a tale of twists and turns. It is a romantic movie and yet it mocks romantic movies with parodies galore. Parodies of popular culture, the ability to laugh at one's own industry and self deprecation that allows for honesty. It is not a musical movie, but music plays a very important role in the movie. It is almost another character because it is good and at the same time seamless with the movie.

The plot in itself is not out of this world, nor is it mundane. A rare romantic comedy where the story is quite believable- if i dare call it a romantic comedy because it does not really belong there. The direction is very thrifty, not a single scene is out of place or unnecessary.

Acting - one word - sublime, its not over the top yet it is powerful, each of the characters are clearly etched. Omi and Jomo may sound similar, and are close cousins in behaviour but are unique creatures. Lallan Mian is both the comic relief and the sage father figure. Siddharth is the likeable nerd who also likes to have fun....i think this is the sort of nerd that all us nerds aspire to be. Ms. Chamko is a one of a kind character, she is a strong career oriented lady and yet a love sick girl at the same time - believable on both counts.

I can't think of a more sublime movie....help me out
